At Sunrise Toastmasters Club, members learn by speaking to groups and working with fellow members in a supportive environment. A typical meeting is attended by about 20 people who and lasts for about two hours. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice:
Conducting meetingsMeetings usually begin with a short business session which helps members learn basic meeting procedures.
Giving impromptu speeches ("Table Topics Session")Members present one-to two-minute impromptu speeches on assigned topics.
Presenting prepared speeches ("Prepared Speech Session")Three or more members present speeches based on projects from the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program manuals. Projects cover such topics as speech organization, voice, language, gestures, and persuasion.
Offering constructive evaluation ("Evaluation Session")Every prepared speaker is assigned an evaluator who points out speech strengths and offers suggestions for improvement.
Presenting ReportsWe have an Evaluation Team (Grammarian, Timer, "Ah" Counter and General Evaluator) to provide a constructive critique of the evaluations and the meeting as a whole.
Conducting meetingsWe finish with Club Business Announcements, presentation of Awards (Best Table Topics Speaker, Best Evaluator, Best Prepared Speaker) and Guests' comments. |
